वेब अनुप्रयोग (web application) त्याच्या वापरकर्त्यांना विश्वसनीय आणि सुरक्षित सेवा प्रदान करण्यासाठी सुरक्षा तंत्र म्हणून कॅप्चा कोडचा वापर केला जातो. कायदेशीर वापरकर्त्यांना संगणक बॉट्सपासून (बॉट्स : मशीन किंवा सॉफ्टवेअर) वेगळे करण्यासाठी कॅप्चा कोडची मदत घेतली जाते. “बॉट्स” हा संगणक प्रोग्राम आहे जो वेबसाइट टिप्पण्यांमध्ये स्पॅम सोडणे, ट्विटरसारख्या सोशल मीडियावर बातम्या पोस्ट करणे, एखाद्या साइटवर जबरदस्त साइन-अप विनंत्या पाठविणे इ. जसे की कॅप्चा कोड एक चाचणी किंवा कार्य आहे मानवांसाठी अगदी सोपे आहे परंतु बॉट्ससाठी कठीण आहे.

अलिकडच्या वर्षांत, 2009 साली गूगलने घेतलेली नवीन कॅप्चा सिस्टम अस्तित्वात आली. ही प्रणाली री-कॅप्चा म्हणून ओळखली जाते. संगणकास स्कॅन करणे अशक्य असणार्‍या संग्रहीत पुस्तकांचे डिजिटायझिंगसह स्पॅम (spam) नियंत्रित करण्यात री-कॅप्चाने यशस्वीरित्या मदत केली. री कॅप्चा विविध वेबसाइटवर दररोज सुमारे 100 दशलक्ष कॅप्चा प्रदर्शित करू शकतो.
कॅप्चा कोड कार्य कसे करते?
कॅप्चा तंत्र ही मुळात एक आव्हानात्मक चाचणी असते. ज्यामध्ये संगणक वापरकर्त्याची चाचणी (test) घेतो. जर वापरकर्त्याने चाचणी यशस्वीरित्या पूर्ण केली तर वापरकर्त्यास “मानव” समजले जाईल अन्यथा ते वेब-बॉट (Web-Boat) म्हणून मानले जाईल. जेव्हा वापरकर्ता एखादी वेबसाइट ओपन करतो किंवा त्या विशिष्ट वेबसाइटद्वारे सेवांचा लाभ घेण्याचा प्रयत्न करतो तेव्हा स्क्रीनवर एक कॅप्चा कोडचा पर्याय दिसून येतो. आणि वापरकर्त्याने प्रदान केलेल्या मजकूरबॉक्समध्ये अचूक माहिती भरावी आणि सबमिट बटणावर क्लिक करावे.
त्यानंतर सर्व्हर वापरकर्त्याने सबमिट केलेला मजकूर डेटाबेसमधील माहितीशी जुळवणी करतो. जर निकाल जुळत असेल तर वापरकर्त्यास कायदेशीर मानले जाईल अन्यथा ते “बॉट” किंवा बेकायदेशीर वापरकर्ता म्हणून समजले जाईल आणि वेबसाइट प्रवेश नाकारून मुख्य स्क्रीनवर redirect केले जाईल.

1)मजकूर आधारित कॅप्चा कोड
मजकूर आधारित कॅप्चा कोड केस-सेन्सेटिव्ह अक्षरे, ओळी आणि अंकांच्या विकृत स्वरूपात दर्शविला जातो. याहू, जीमेल, यूट्यूब, पेपल इत्यादी लोकप्रिय वेब साइट्समध्ये मजकूर-आधारित कॅप्चा कोड तुम्ही बऱ्याचदा पाहिला असेलच. मजकूर-आधारित कॅप्चा कोडच्या प्रकारांमध्ये जिम्पी (gimpy), बफल-मजकूर (baffle-text) आणि MSN-CAPTCHA आदींचा समावेश होतो.
2)प्रतिमा आधारित कॅप्चा कोड

4)व्हिडिओ आधारित कॅप्चा कोड
